How do the start-up ecosystem and start-up activity in a region influence each other in the short, medium and long term, and what can be done for regional economic policy? Olga Suprinović discussed this question at this year's ‘Research in Entrepreneurship and Small Business’ (RENT) conference in Nantes, France, in mid-November.

Dr Annika Reiff presented the research results of the IfM Bonn on the ‘Role of gender and personality traits in self-rationing in the context of debt financing’. The results show that women are more likely than men to refrain from applying for a bank loan simply because of an expected rejection. This behaviour cannot be explained by gender differences in personality traits.

In his lecture, Dr Olivier Butkowski reported on how the personal attitudes of female and male entrepreneurs influence green innovation at the company level. It was found that companies are particularly likely to innovate when the positive attitude of the owners towards climate protection corresponds to their personal values and principles. However, greater availability of resources can have a substitutive effect on personal attitudes.
