Excessive regulation, a lack of realism and insufficient practical suitability are the main reasons why entrepreneurs perceive bureaucracy as an extreme burden.
In her speech "Insanity – how bureaucracy is strangling German SMEs", Dr Annette Icks not only highlighted the components of the bureaucratic burden, but also possible ways of reducing it: "Above all, we need a paradigm shift – away from a culture of regulation and control and towards a trust-based approach. In doing so, policymakers could take a look at the successful measures in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom", said the IfM project manager.
