Research conducted by the IfM in Bonn has shown that only a small number of the Mittelstand managers are actually seeking to relocate production sites abroad. Nevertheless, there is a tendency towards setting up additional production facilities in foreign countries.
In his presentation "Development trends in global value chains from the perspective of Mittelstand companies" at the initiative's annual conference in Ingolstadt in mid-October, Dr André Pahnke pointed out that this could lead to a reduction in the value added by industry in Germany in the long term.
