This paper responds to Welter’s (2011) call to pay more attention to the diversity of entrepreneurship in theorizing contexts by examining how places come to be understood as entrepreneurial. In doing so, the authors use a variety of disciplines to examine how narratives and language, memories of the past, and the environment and power constellations among groups of people influence the emergence and decline of places of entrepreneurship.
