Public childcare provision influences the start-up activities of both women and men and therefore also the gender gap in start-up activities. According to studies by Dr Rosemarie Kay, Dr Teita Bijedić-Krumm, Dr Siegrun Brink and Dr Sebastian Nielen, the degree of influence depends on the age group of the child and amount of time available. Dr Rosemarie Kay presented the various influencing factors and their effects in her talk "Public care – is impact on gender equality in entrepreneurship revisited" at the Diana International Research Conference in Stockholm at the beginning of June.
Prof Dr Dr h.c. Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) introduced not only in the Diana conference together with three other female researchers, she also gave in her keynote speech an overview of how female entrepreneurship is supported worldwide. She also presented together with other researchers their findings in the lectures "It is not about money! Why Chinese women from elite families pursue sociocultural capital through entrepreneurship" and "Exposing the ‘Dark Side’ of Jua Kali Entrepreneurial Spatial Contexts: Lessons from Rural Kenya". She chaired a session, too.
