According to the research by the IfM Bonn, the circular economy is most likely to succeed when companies work together in a targeted manner. "Many medium-sized companies have recognised that they must actively em-brace the transition to a decarbonised and circular economy. At the same time, there are increasing economic incentives to strive for cooperation in the interests of the circular economy", said Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) at the 8th SUMMIT Environmental Economy.NRW 2024 in Düsseldorf in Mid-November.
Nevertheless, the strategic reorientation towards a circular economy requires a high degree of willingness to embrace change and take risks in companies. It is to be expected that collaborative innovations will also fundamentally change companies' business models.
